SHALKAI HOUSE

Gulf Islands, B.C. : 2006
2500 square feet

Shalkai is designed as a retreat and meditation environment for its owners.

The site is a beautiful and peaceful south facing oak meadow high above the Harbour.

Cedar House | By Hudson Architect

Cedar House, North Elmham, Norfolk, England. Built: 2005. A barn-like house clad entirely in cedar shingles.

TEXT:
HUDSON Architects’ Cedar House, a new-build private residence in Norfolk, pilots a new prototype for cost-effective new-build modern housing. It deploys innovative off-site construction, which simplifies the building process without compromising the architecture of the house.
The prefabricated timber panel floors designed in collaboration with Alan Conisbee Associates and off site construction specialists Framework CDM, are entirely cloaked in 15,000 untreated cedar shingles, a material which belies the prefabricated system beneath. The cedar reads as a dramatic sleek protective cloak, which sits harmoniously with its countryside surroundings.

Ridge House at Gulf Island, BC : 2007 | By BlueSkyArchitects

RIDGE HOUSE
Gulf Islands, BC : 2007
3200 square feet

Balanced on the spine of a rocky ridge, the linear house threads through a grove of arbutus. As you move through the house, the exposed rafters gradually invert into a butterfly roof opening to bring light and views into the main social areas.

The rhythm and movement of the roof structure is subtle but the spatial mood changes dramatically from enclosed and protective at the entrance to open and expansive in the living and dining rooms.

The McBeath House | By Helliwell & Smith Architects | The BlueSkyArchitecture

A new house under construction in the Eagle Harbour neighbourhood of West Vancouver, BC. This one is going to be stunning when it’s finished. It’s already amazing to see the post and beam work and large windows that overlook the ocean.

Designed by Helliwell & Smith Architects
Helliwell and Smith are the inheritors of the organic tradition of modernism. They have been deeply involved with the ecology and topography of southern British Columbia and its interweave of sea, forest, and rock. At the same time, they have always been open to ideas and influences from the rest of the world, translating and adapting them to their area.

This is everything a modern wood house should be.

House Ö, Erginoglu & Calislar Architects

House Ö is located in one of Bodrum’s popular holiday districts, Yalıkavak. The design aims to offer a modern life style approach whilst remaining in keeping with the geography and the scenery of the area.

Great importance has been placed on minimising any changes in the topography of the land. And this is borne out through the siting of the swimming pool between the house and the garden. The building consists of three stone units connected by two clear units. Vision is enhanced through the use of clear glass connectors between units.

The interconnectivity and use of light permits the feeling of a single, spacious living area. Using intelligent interior design and appropriate furniture, distinct living areas are created within an open ‘whole’.
