Tips to Select Bed Sheets

To have a comfortable sleep and for the overall health being, it is necessary to choose the right bed sheet or bed linen. After a hard day's work, it is very essential to have a proper sleep so that you relax and rejuvenate yourself. And that is why your bedding needs to be very comfortable besides being beautiful to look at. Thus, the quality of your bed sheet greatly affects the comfort of your bed and slumber. There are certain factors that are to be considered when selecting the bed sheet so that it gives you ultimate comfort.

Thread count: Usually the thread count is seen on the front of sheet packages. Thread count implies the amount of threads in the fabric per square inch. It ranges between 180 and 300. The more the number of threads, the more soft the bed linen is. For comfort and luxury, look for bed sheets with at least a 300-thread count. Though the higher thread count bed sheets are expensive, it is worth the investment as they last for a long time and ultimately you cannot compromise on your sleep and health by going for cheaper sheets with lower thread count

Weave: Another factor to consider is the weave. This implies how the threads of the fabric are spun together. There are two common weaves : percale and sateen. Parcale weave is seen in cotton bed sheets and it is very simple. In sateen weaves, four threads are weaved one over the other and one thread under. Sateen weaves are however not as durable as percale.

Fabric: The fabric of the bed sheets also is an important factor to consider. The common fabrics are cotton, silk, satin or blends of synthetic fibers. Silk is a luxurious fabric. Cotton is the most comfortable fabric. Flannel sheets are good for colder climates as they are warm. Satin is soft but not easy to clean. The highest quality bed sheets are made completely of cotton, with single ply fibers. The longer the fibers, the better the quality. It is stated that 2-inch fibers make for the best quality bed sheets.

Proper Fit: Another rule is that you should select bed sheets as per your bed size. When purchasing sheets, give some allowance for possible shrinkage after washing.

Design: This is of course your personal preference. There are variety of styles available in different prints , colors and fabrics. As a rule, select bed sheets that complement with the overall bedding furnishings and your room as beauty also counts.
